Get a Taste of Mexico: New Hands-On New Sauce Workshops Offered at Velas Resorts

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (November 4, 2026) - Furthering its commitment to Mexican culinary traditions, Velas Resorts properties Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos and Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta have introduced interactive cooking masterclasses dedicated entirely to the art of traditional Mexican sauces. Designed for foodies seeking an authentic connection with local roots, the experiences delve into the history, diverse textures, and complex personalities of Mexico's favorite culinary staples. The cooking classes pay homage to a rich history that stretches back thousands of years to the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas, who combined native ingredients such as chilis and tomatoes into a sauce to accompany their meals.   The masterclasses are part of the weekly activities programming at each hotel included in the all inclusive nightly rate.

Casa Velas

As part of its weekly activities program, Casa Velas invites guests to discover the flavors and traditions of Mexican cuisine through a hands-on cooking class led by Executive Chef Sandra Macías. Guests will learn traditional techniques and prepare "Salsa Macha", a Mexican chile oil with rich, smoky, and nutty flavors, as well as a traditional dish such as ceviche, "zarandeado" fish/shrimp, or guacamole. The experience offers guests an authentic and interactive way to connect with the flavors, ingredients, and traditions that make Mexican gastronomy so distinctive. Set within the resort's lush Botanical Garden, the experience takes guests through traditional recipes from the region, while introducing them to some of the fresh herbs and spices grown right on property and used in the preparations. The cooking class is part of the weekly activities programming at Casa Velas included in the all inclusive nightly rate.

Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos

The salsa masterclass at Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos encourages guests to discover the many flavors of Mexico through a hands-on exploration of regional salsas, as they taste their way through the country's various distinct traditions and cultures. The workshop begins with the meticulous process of handling fresh and dried chilies, roasted vegetables, and spices. Then, guests will master the art of the molcajete as they prepare a trio of contrasting sauces, each of which represents distinct Mexican flavor profiles and regional influences: a classic, smoky Charred Serrano and Tomato Salsa; an aromatic Morita Chili and Tomatillo Salsa, boasting rich, caramelized undertones; and an intense, Yucatán-inspired Habanero Ash "Tamulada" Salsa, balanced with a vibrant splash of citrus. By understanding the distinct spice levels and ideal pairings of each creation, travelers gain a tangible piece of Mexican heritage, transforming a simple culinary ritual into an unforgettable luxury seaside escape.
